CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Glimmer
SERIES: The Hunger Games
CANON POINT: after her death
LOSS: Glimmer won’t be able to wear any fancy clothing. She really likes the things that she makes and will be really upset that she can’t wear anything nice.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER:
Superficially, Glimmer has been able to pull of the look of a sexy woman easily, just as her stylists wanted. She flirts, but not too much. She’s in control, but makes others feel at ease by letting them believe that they are right. She has been trained to win the Hunger Games and use people to do so. She uses her good looks to draw people in and her personality to keep them on her side. This can be seen when she becomes close to Cato. She allows him to think he’s in control, like when she lets him take the bow and arrow away from her in the movie. She also listens to him when he wants to keep Peeta to help find Katniss. She wanted to kill Peeta from the start. She doesn’t dislike this task, and seems to actually like him. The fact that she sleeps in his arms in the movie shows a strong level of trust since Cato is so strong and could kill her at any moment.

Like all careers, she is not afraid to kill people and use them as she needs to. She is strong and willing to do what it takes. The games affect her more then the other career tributes, since she has nightmares and restless during the games in the movie. She has a temper as well, which can be seen when she over reacts to Katniss taunting her and Cato for not being able to kill her with the bow and arrows. She would have kept trying if it hadn’t been for Peeta.

Glimmer is beautiful and she knows it, which her team uses to her advantage. During the interview the stylist show off her body with see through dress. She is given a score of 9 in the trials, which shows that she is capable. In the movie it is show that she is very good during the training with a bow and arrow. She most likely does have skills with knives since it was how she killed the tribute at the blood bath. She isn’t given the best odds by the gamekeepers in the movie as compared to the other career tributes, which could point to the fact that she wasn’t the best of them. She did do extremely well in her interview, which most likely earned her many sponsors despite the odds. It is never stated how many she received though.

She tries to sneak in a ring that has a poisonous spike in it. She wasn’t allowed to have it, but I believe that she was going to use closer to the end of the games. I believe that the spike could be combined with something else when needed to make a deadly weapon that the other careers wouldn’t see coming since it wasn’t one of the weapons offered in the cornucopia. This would help her kill off the last of them when the time came to break the alliance. This shows her cunning and willingness to bend the rules to win. She is determined to live and win, no matter if doing so may be against the rules.

Her stance on the capital is not known, but because she was willing to try and sneak a weapon into the games, it can be assumed that she isn’t the best of citizens in regards to loving her Capital. She most likely didn’t volunteer because of this as well.

The only thing that Glimmer wants in the end is to be able to live. She wants to go home to her family and not work anymore. She knows that if she wins, she will have a far better life than she has now. She will be able to use her skills as she likes instead of making thing for the Capital. Like most people of district one, Glimmer really enjoys the finer things in life. Though not known what she would have been able to make, she is probably versed in making jewelry, whine and other fine goods. It’s not an easy life, but it is better then the lower districts.

As far as education goes, she has been trained all her life to win the Hunger Games. She is very smart in regards to using people and does so with ease and grace. She is smart enough to know her limits, such as when she was trying to get Katniss. She didn’t climb up the tree after here since she saw Cato fall and didn’t want to do the same thing and hurt herself.

ABILITIES:
Glimmer is shown to have skill with a bow and arrow in the movie, but doesn’t do well when she tries to shoot down Katniss from a tree. She has fighting skills, which most likely include hand-to-hand combat and knives. She has knowledge of poison, which is only mentioned in regards to her ring. It’s said to be very strong, and most likely not something most people would be able to have. It is unlikely that such a poison would be given to her if she didn’t know how to use it.

Because if her district’s industry, Glimmer is able to make clothing and knows the ins and outs of other fine goods making, such as wines and jewelry.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
Glimmer woke herself again in the night. She had barely been sleeping at all since arriving at the castle. Every night, she had been having nightmares about her death. Every night, the horrible pain, the visions of that girl’s face looming over her. Glimmer shook her head, trying to clear her mind. What had those things been!? Mutts? They couldn’t have been normal bees, right? Yeah, normal bees wouldn’t have attacked like that. She shivered, looking around the lush room she now slept in.

This was supposed to be her life, her life after winning the games. Luxury, pampering, and being able to have whatever she wanted, right? The way her life ended, that wasn’t the plan at all. Glimmer hugged her legs close, trying to calm her shaking. The poison had done something to her mind; she just knew it. How had things worked out so poorly?

Her death wasn’t her fault, right? She had trained so hard! Her family was so proud of her when they had picked her name during the reaping. She had worked everything just right, right? Well, minus having her ring taken away, but that couldn’t be helped she guessed. She had other things in her favor. The fact that she able to so easily make friends with Cato …

… Cato. He had tried to pull her away from those things. She wished that he were here right now, and then he could be holding her in his arms. He really was very strong. Glimmer rubbed her arms idly. When she would wake up suddenly, it was really nice to have him right there so she could be reassured that she was safe. If only he could have saved her…

No, she would have left him as well with all of those bees. It was the smart ting to do in the end so he didn’t die too. It wasn’t his fault at all; it was that stupid “girl on fire.” Glimmer had to get back at that girl, make her suffer. The terrible pain, the way her skin burned, not being able to die right away; all of it had been just hell. The last thing she saw was that bitch’s face too, and she wasn’t going to just let something like that slide.

Glimmer turned around and punched her headboard. Katniss wasn’t going to get away with it!

FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE:

Hello everyone on this… Book? Journal? [Gives a cute laugh playing charmingly ignorant? Yes.]

Anyway, my name is Glimmer. It seems that we are stuck here, yes? I’m not really sure what’s going on, but I was able to figure out this book at lest! It kind of landed on my head when I got here and someone’s little written thing started talking to me. [Laughs in a cute and demure way.] It was a little startling!

Speaking of everyone here, I was looking through the entries and didn’t see anyone that I know personally. I would be very grateful if anyone would help me get my balance here.

Thank you for listening, everyone! I look forward to your replies.

[private to Clove]
Thanks for helping me when I got here.
Anyway, I’m not sure how well this trick about not knowing the other tributes is going to work, but I want to try. I’m not going to just let that tribute from 12 walk around here without causing her pain. The way she killed me? She’s going to pay for it. Can you help?

INTENT: Because Glimmer was one of the nicknames I had in kindergarten and I think she’s interesting!
